“Cardigan Traders” form New Organisation
Dissatisfied businesses in Cardigan town centre have moved to set up a new trade association in the town. The decision was taken at a well attended meeting in the Guildhall in January 2011, when around 30 businesses signed up for the new organisation which aims to represent their members’ interests at all levels.
Unhappy with the current representation, businesses from all parts of the town centre and the industrial estates agreed to a newly constituted body to be called simply “Cardigan Traders / Masnachwyr Aberteifi.
“What our members want is a professionally run trade association that truly represents the needs of its members and where the members themselves take the decisions in a democratic way “said Chairman of the group Julian Beynon-Lewis, (a former Chair of both Cardigan and Ceredigion Chambers of Commerce). “ Since the meeting we have had a very strong response with many more members joining and we would like to make it clear that our doors are open to any business in Cardigan who agree to sign up to our objectives. We intend to make a fresh start with fresh ideas and initiatives. These are challenging times for everyone in business and we need to work together to ensure the success of our town. Collectively we have a lot of experience and we intend to put it to good use.”
Also elected at the meeting were Marie Hughes-Jones (Vice Chair), Mike Sabiston (Secretary), Keith Davies (Treasurer). The organisation meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm. Check our blog posts for details of venues.
The organisation continues to go from strength to strength and is growing all the time, with many new members joining. If your business is not already a member you may be missing out on the exiting and cost effective advertising and promotional schemes being run by Cardigan Traders.
